Lesson 1: How is the Internet Effecting Children?

Everyone knows that "children these days" are addicted to the internet. And I mean ADDICTED. The average child will spend around SIX AND A HALF (yeah that's right, 6 1/2) hours in front of a screen per DAY. That's over a fourth of their day! But the real question is: is all this really that bad for kids? The answer isn't very cut and dry. Some say yes, some say no, but I'm going to give you the facts so you, yourself, can decide. First, let's talk social. We've all heard about cyber bullying. This is a large factor, but one that people may not always talk about are the scammers and hackers. Everyone has gotten scammed at some point in their life, and if you haven't, trust me: you will. Children are even more susceptible to this because most kids cannot tell the difference between a game and an advertisement. Another factor is the lack of physical conversations. You know, the face-to-face ones. More and more kids are unable to keep a conversation in real life. We are creating this awkward generation. WE ARE THE AWKWARD. Ok, well maybe some kids are alright but many children are suffering from this real problem. Next, we have education in general. Many schools are opting for the new technology to help kids to be able to learn a more vast amount of knowledge in a shorter time. There are also set-backs. Everyone knows that the internet can also make you dumber-er. The information can contradict and be misleading, often causing false information. Likewise, there are also many physical issues. These issues are still widely debated by scientists and doctors alike. All that is certain is that excessive internet use can lead to serious health problems, like obesity. (Please try not to laugh at that one, it's rude) :) But in all seriousness, obesity is a legit problem that society needs to learn to deal with. I'm not going to go into the whole "People have different body types but everyone is special" argument. I don't want a riot. But as I was saying, a little bit of internet can actually help with your hand-eye coordination, so now you have an excuse (you're welcome). Do you have anything to add to this discussion? If so, comment down below! I'd love to hear all of your opinions and theories. Have an idea for lesson 2? Also comment down below! Have another wonderful day of learning.
